What is Google AI Overviews?

Google AI Overviews are AI-generated summaries that appear above the traditional results for many queries, composed from sources Google’s systems select and cite. For businesses, being cited inside an Overview increasingly matters as much as ranking below it.

Overviews absorb part of the clicks a #1 ranking used to get — the “zero-click” effect. The compensating opportunity: sources cited in the Overview gain visibility and trust even without the classic click, so optimizing to be the cited source becomes its own discipline.
